Tidstrumman is a work that, in spirit and material, is in dialogue with the traditions of both Sámi and Siberian shaman drums. The vessel is made from a burl and the legs of the drum are made from naturally-grown and shaped birch wood. The guardians are made from reindeer antlers, and  the ladle from perforated birch bark and birch wood.

Tidstrumman was born out of a dream. It revealed an object that had the ability to make silence heard and time felt. A listening that could travel beyond all sound and ticking time.

As long as there have been people, we have been in nature, with nature, daily. In nature, the balance between life and death poises to its inherent rhythm, whose soulful beat we, as beings of nature, thought we could conquer.

Linear time is the dream of a new age. A dream that through constant, endless activity and loss of silence, is sustained in our collective consciousness. But in the sound of nature’s silence, in the space between heartbeats, that rigid, linear dream is being crushed.

Down in the sheltered depth of the forest, and up in the expanse of the mountains, the doors are opened to a different kind of dream. A dream that speaks of cycles of time and the silence of the moment.

In the glint of the lake, lying deep in the forest, there the dream is gleaned. In the broken reflective surface of the still water, beneath the whispering of the trees, there we catch a glimpse of an eternal silence, of our place in the eternal cycle of time.

In the mosaic of the surface of water, the eternal protector of nature and silence can be sighted. The timeless guardians of life, death and balance stand amongst us, always. In the silence, in the immortal depth of the forest they speak to us.
